Carol Anderson: A Fatally Unequal America
The interviewer cracks me up. He’s clearly got one prejudiced agenda and wants to hyper-focus on that and the author doesn’t fall for it
A very good interview, but sound is uneven and hard to listen to. A sound guy could balance the levels.
Listening to this 5 years later, knowing what Dr. Snyder said has worked its way to 2024, is a horror. We dodged a bullet in the 1930s, but can we do so now?
Oh dear I found Christopher Hitchens very late in life. I didn't know the awful details of all organized religions. I have seen the evils first hand of the worst of humanity. It is the history of the poets ans scribes trying to account for this wonderful gift of life and creation. Then evil steps in against love. I have discovered life and creation are all about and are love. I have discovered that life and creation are about infinite perfection. And those who are evil do not know love and are quite defective just born blind to life's beauty and the perfection of all that is created.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Carol Anderson, I have always wanted to ask a question, but I didn't know who until I watched your videos. Carol, the white man, has met so many other races in our world. Why is it that for the last 600 or 700 years we have met white people? Why are we such an existential threat to them? What is this fear of the black man, and where is it coming from?
I just finished 'She's Come Undone' for the 12th time--and the first time in audiobook form. It's my favorite book of all time. Every so often, I google the book and read some reviews and whatnot, and this time, I happened to find this video.
The “real” proposal of Carbon Quantitative Easing and the inspiration of the the novel is the work of Dr Delton Chen. It’s credited in Chapter 42 as the “Chen plan” and Carbon QE is eventually adopted by central banks. The real proposal is quite brilliant and more practical as the banks have a minor role of supporting a price floor of the asset. Research Global Carbon Reward for a deeper understanding.
He is such a hard writer to interview. I’ve seen him a number of times when he came to the Netherlands on booktours, there is always an undercurrent of akwardness, he really does not seem to enjoy it. The Shards is a great book.
Wow, here I am 100 pages into Anna Karenina and Jeffrey Eugenides has to come and spoil the whole plot for me. Nice going :( interesting talk though
All Americans might want to go from their position of certainty around their ideology to a position of curious.
Ty her environment engineer 😂😢😮
Freud ov Thomas 🎉❤❤❤ ❤
How ashamed Adams would be of Harvard today, headed by plagiarist and antisemites.

Boy this is one fierce Lady! Intellect of the highest order! Wow!
Wonderful it’s got 2 comments. Lightweight neoliberal secular Jew comes to Amsterdam to talk about “fear” Wonder if he realizes epi-genetics are more at play here than his less than courageous plea for humans to oppose tRump, antisemitism and other boogie men lurking around his leafy, liberal and loaded townhouse located somewhere west of Gaza. Free Gaza Foer. And stop acting like a neocon.
He's an amazing orator writer narrator. He actually takes my mind off nonsense social media and people like Donald Trump and refocuses it on history
Why no English language audio books?
Depunked
Mr.Carr is correct when he says that internet is a interrupting technology, it doesn't help us to become more imaginative, contemplative, empathetic because it is a source of mere information. Just as T.S .Eliot says that ' we don't have wisdom any more, but only knowledge, and only information rather then true knowledge, we aren't able to pause and go into a thought ful reverie but are over loaded with information. We need to cut back our internet usage.
It's a shame it was cut off. Like Amis himself.
Aristotle used to be true sexist. Anaksagor is much more worthy to mention.
A monumental mind.
Keep the children away from this stuff. No, they do not really learn, and if they do, the damage is far far worse than whatever little knowledge they can acquire this way. Read the book "Glow kids" along with Carr's book.
Amy Tan is my favorite author (tied with Steinbeck), and The Hundred Secret Senses is my favorite of her books. She is something special.
Bought it past week. I started it today morning. I'm really excited for what's to come. Greetings from the New World 🍌

I don't know what to believe. He falsely accused other human beings of a horrible crime to elevate his own status within his tribe.
Most Trump supporters that I have seen don’t know the name Timothy Snyder, nor do they have even an inkling of what he is saying- yet he speaks often, and is available for free on RUclips. Why? Somehow the media space is fractured and something like a watertight hatch exists between them. How do we get Timothy Snyder to speak to a Trump rally? Ideas?
When Peter denied Christ three times are you telling me he never met Christ?
So the brothers of Jesus Christ never met him?
It’s amazing to me it’s alarming that a representative of the surveillance state calling for suppression of free speech and weaponizing section 230 is being platformed by the John Adams institute.
Interesting to hear the question about Chevron -- when it seems that the conservative bank of the current court is on the very urge of discarding Chevron completely (to the betterment, IMO). The congress has been LAZY with regard to writing legislation. It's up to them to legislate PRECISE laws, rather than vague laws which are then clarified by bureaucrats.
Congratulations, it has come true. Nice comment with foreseeing the overturning of Chevron.
And history wasnt over, not even by marxists standards, just because Gorbi capitulated and the USSR went extinct. Now i pause and wonder, from a japanese point of view, could it have looked like as somekind of history ending? Some chapter ending? When those things came to pass.
Who the fuck said yes?
Really good talk. A bit of a shame that he has to waste his time explaining why Shakespeare was Shakespeare. Maybe if these conspiracy theory Muppets could just go away and do a bit more reading instead of browsing online, that would save everybody a lot of trouble.
True, but professor Greenblatt was trying to figure out the "secret note" which made Shakespeare transition from The Two Gentlemen Of Verona to Hamlet and King Lear.
Thank you I love the documentary.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I love interviewees who laugh at something they themselves say.😅
The humanist in me resonates with the message of Chaim Potok. Studied his fine novel, "The Chosen", at age fifteen. I seek out the book and the film today, as I did then

This man's message has been consistent all along, and it's value un appreciated. These voices, of people who've defected from autocratic countries are nearly always heeded in hind sight.
Less than a thousand views in six years? Poor!! Black and Blue is an underrated book. Thank you Anna Quindlen for this emotion eliciting work.
shes seems like such a sweet and joyful person. her laughs and her little ‘oh hi!’ when she finally catches sight of the person in the audience asking the question. so sweet!!!
But probably not. -ironically by the author of audacity of hope pres barack obama cant say he was lying
Love "white noise" and "Libra" but "Underworld" is his best.
Presumably God supercedes formal intellectual discourse. Numinous. The interviewer appears tortured at some level.
KSR is perhaps the George Bernard Shaw of our time. Whilst he discusses using fiat capitalism to fund green projects, I am kinda surprised he doesn't use words emphasizing the need to place values on pricing & preserving the natural capital of our environment, though his theme does embrace this concept.
Any more books by Donna, please tell
The goldfinsh and the little friend
Jesus the zealot is a lot more authentic and lovable than Jesus the God.
This is just brutal…Hitch is like a lion making a stealthy kill and the other guy is a giraffe tumbling down the side of a mountain
He basically spent a large amount of time agreeing with him
